scoping out street art in sd

The family and I went out to scope out some of the street art going up around San Diego. We found some of the pieces on Invader's "space invader walk" throughout the metro area. We also saw the Shepard Fairey piece in Hillcrest just as it was finished and got to talk with the crew briefly. Along with those, we saw pieces by Os Gemeos, Barry McGee and what appears to be Banksy. One of the best parts was just chatting with fellow fans, swapping stories of other pieces seen around town, and the the scavenger hunt-like experience of trying to find them.

Set & Drift and Mike Maxwell have been documenting what's going up around town.

If you get a chance, go on the invader walk and enjoy art created for the masses.

shepard fairey in san diego

I mentioned a couple days ago that I was excited to see the upcoming show at MCASD Downtown with renowned street artists such as Shepard Fairey, Banksy and Swoon among others. Today, as I was driving down 5th Ave. between University and Washington, I saw this going up on the south side of Urban Outfitters. So, I snapped a couple pics with my phone. Pretty cool piece by Shepard Fairey.

new pieces

Brooke and I stayed up way too late last night finishing 14 new pieces that will be on display today at the trunk show she is part of. What doesn't sell today will be put on display at Alta Coffee in Newport Beach (20 pieces are already on display there). These have been fun pieces to work on. We incorporated elements we haven't used in our collaborative pieces in the past–such as sewing, water colors, hand drawings, hand-drawn lettering, and of course, recycled materials (mostly pages from old discarded books we've found) along with the other techniques we commonly use. Go to the show today and join us up at Alta's soon. Watch fireandflowers.com for more news on this front.

south park street art

I don't know who this is, but there is a great street artist in South Park doing mostly wire art. I've documented some of their stuff in the past here, here, here and Jon Hall has some here as well. I had some photos of paint/ink wall pieces but have lost them somehow. Brooke took these photos earlier today while we went on a family walk.

UPDATE: The artist is Spenser Little and more of his work can be found at DirtyClean.net. Now, I'm not sure the ink pieces are his but they certainly look like his style and I found them close to the wire pieces.
